Open House Festival 2022

We are delighted to announce that Red Door Studios is part of this year's Open House Festival. Our doors will be open to the public on Sat 17th and Sun 18th of September 11am-3pm!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the festival and we are delighted that East Ham has been invited to take part along with 9 other neighbourhoods.

We will be featuring part of Ferha Farooqui’s collection of ‘Disappearing Landmarks’ paintings which depict lost place and human stories observed on the streets of Newham, revealing the continuity between past and present and how the past impinges on today. The figures and places are a combination of found images from photographic archives, observed contemporary street life and reflections on wider social change.

Alongside the exhibition we will have an opportunity for visitors to be part of making a miniature city built from waste materials, in this we would like participants to consider what we value and want to keep within our cities from the past and what we feel is missing and needs to be considered when looking into the future.

SPAB architect Britt Harwood will join us at 1pm on both Saturday and Sunday to give a tour of the building and a talk about the individual history of the building and a wider commentary on how and why we should respect, maintain and repair our historic buildings.

You can book through the Open House website here if you would like to ensure there is space for a specific time/event or you can drop in to us from 11am-3pm both days although please consider our 30 person maximum capacity.

Drinks and home-made snacks will be available to purchase from our pop-up café!
